How does prophecy choose its victims? Willow Charm knows how to run. She ran away from the military’s paranormal research program, away from the father who made her a test subject. To stay free, she’s learning how to hide. The Threshold Elsewhere Following is excellent camouflage for Willow, and her secrets. The hippie commune’s leader pushes her to explore her powers and their uncanny connection to technology. Whether she wants to learn, or not. Cult leader Severin Tenpenny has dwelt for years at the threshold of a source of unimaginable power. He can touch that otherworldly force, but not command it. There is much about Willow that his unnatural knowledge cannot discern, but he sees the potent energy she carries. Sees that with it he could unlock limitless power. The key to controlling that energy is controlling Willow. Brad Tanner has no idea what he’s getting into when he gives Willow a lift. She’s drawn to him, for reasons both obvious and mysterious. He falls hard for her, too, not realizing he doesn’t even know her real name. Soon he’s got terrible secrets of his own. Brad refuses to be anybody’s bad guy, although it prevents him from being anyone’s hero either. No matter how badly Willow needs one. Is it time for Willow to run again? Someday, it will be time for her to disappear.

If truth is stranger than fiction, truth must be strange in the extreme. This is a very strange tale that I hope is fiction. How can the human mind(s) make this stuff up?

But make it up author Rune Skelley did. Rune – is that male or female? No idea. So, how to refer to him/her? “They”, “he/she” or “(s)he”? It’s so hard. And then there are clues that Rune just might more than one person. Maybe even twins. You’ll see.

Oh, yeah – the story. The search for completeness is a common enough central theme but ol’ Rune skillfully and cunningly takes it to a new dimension. Poor Brad, the protagonist (I think) gets himself caught in the epicenter of a very complex family saga/drama/conflict. About halfway through you’ll be looking for a pad and pencil to draw the family tree. Let that be a lesson: that’s what you get for helping strangers.

It only takes a couple decades to sort it all out, sort of, during which the reader is introduced to some new concepts: binogamy and gruntledness, to name only two.

Although the narrative progresses pleasingly linearly, the necessary flashbacks appear throughout, steadily and deliberately filling in the many, many mysteries that will have you reaching for that pad and pencil.

And then there’s the whole occult dimension. Skelley has created a complex, compelling story that stands on its own, all the while weaving in a continuous parallel line of otherworldly activities complete with a Svengali character who controls and manipulates a cadre of hippies and, later, techno geeks to help him achieve his devious goals, because, hey, that’s what Svengali characters do.

So, this book is a worthy way to spend a few evenings enjoying a tale of love, deception, yearning, manipulation, despair, and redemption. Oh, and sex. I almost forgot the sex part. No Fifty Shades, but just enough and well done. I hope Rune Skelley is female because the I’d like to believe the sex parts were written by a woman. It even ventures into some taboo territory: “She let the sheet drop”.

You’ll see.

Tenpenny Zen a novel of sex cults and an interdimensional henge contraption Divided Man Volume 2 Rune Skelley Books Reviews

After reading Miss Brandymoon's Device I couldn't wait to get my hands on Tenpenny Zen. This book was a bargainBut, I had no idea that for as much as I "enjoyed" Book One - Miss Brandymoon's Device, Tenpenny Zen grabbed me by my soul and left a lasting mark.

At first I wasn't sure that I enjoyed the sequence of Tenpenny Zen. Spoiler!!! (Tenpenny Zen happens before Miss Brandymoon) but I found myself totally invested in the characters; quietly, and sometimes not so quietly, rooting for each and every one of them (OK.. not two of the characters because they are "not good people"...read it and decide for yourselves)... I enjoyed this journey with the characters/residents of Webster tenfold more than the first!

I can't wait for Book Three!!! I debated giving this review 1 STAR just to get peoples attention. But it would have been a disservice. This was a page turner journey that I can't wait to see how it ends.
Rune Skelley - I can't wait to see what else you have in the cue!
I really enjoyed getting to know the characters. This is a very enjoyable read, and I can't wait for Book 3 to be released.
