I love all things supernatural and paranormal as well as apocalyptic scenarios and this book has them all and then some! It's nice to see a thrilling page-turner, filled with many moments of suspense and heart-pounding moments, show that need to be prepared for times when technology fails, survival skills become essential in whether one lives or dies. Kelly intertwined all these points and created a vivid and terrifying story of what can happen when all the lights go out permanently and the horrors that follows as society breaks down into chaos and disaster. She also showcases that those that have "special gifts" can somehow become more enhanced and even grow through the turmoil and can help them survive. I hope see more work from Kelly Bedford in the future. Bravo!

A Light in the Dark eBook Kelly Bedford Reviews

This book is a roller coaster of emotions. It’s written well, Gracie the lead character is someone you can so easily relate to, a survivor and a fighter, not to mention little Andy who grabs your heart. Some points in the story are too long, and seem to drift away from the main plot but they can be endured because the story is interesting and suspenseful.
This book captured my interest with the first sentence and then left me with a warm feeling after reading the last sentence. I love the way the last words on the page encompassed the whole meaning of the story. This is a well written story as well as nicely thought out. I enjoyed the paranormal touch, the abilities the young people possessed. This is the first post apocalypse book I have ever read. I'm glad I chose this one. I definitely recommend this book.
I'm not usually a fan of paranormal tellings, but the author did a wonderful job in captivating my attention...causing me to turn page after page as I was eager to learn more. The characters in my opinion are excellent developed. And I cannot wait to read the next book! Great job for a breakout novel!
Loved this book. I read a lot of post apocalypse books and this one is definitely worth reading. This is about a girl with a special gift of hearing the dead. After the loss of all power, how she survives and moves forward. Can't wait for the sequel.
Gracie is different. She has a gift. She hears whisperings in her head, the voices of the dead. Medical doctors have used the phrase ‘auditory hallucination’. Since the Darkness, she’s developed new gifts, her abilities have increased and she sees apparitions.

When the world went dark, Gracie was left alone. She sets out on a long journey to the safety of the camp, accompanied by two traveling companions she meets along the way- Patience, the horse and Andy, an 8 ½ year old boy. Will Gracie’s gifts guide her in a new world fraught with danger? Will she be able to stay a step ahead of the creep following her?

Kelly Bedford weaves an interesting tale of survival and suspense in a post apocalyptic world.
A Light in the Dark starts out with a young Grace already faced with an environment that is mentally and emotionally challenging and then thrusts her into one that places almost impossible physical demands upon her as well. This is a well-crafted story that draws the reader in through the use of strong emotion and a mind-numbing catastrophic event. While many readers will focus on the abilities that the characters have and use, I was more intrigued by how Grace dealt with each new situation that seemed to drive her from one terror to the next. Definitely a worthwhile read, five-stars.
I was pleased to see that this is the first book of a planned series, as the premise of this story and its main characters could easily continue. Each of the gifted main characters has a unique ability that proves helpful and will be interesting as this series progresses.

I liked Gracie's friendship with young Andy, especially as each at times is protector and/or protected. The survival instincts and skills the characters displayed are believable and realistic.

Andy at times seems too old for his age, perhaps because the burden of his gift, but his youthful qualities came through with humor and typical kid behavior. There was a little too much reminiscing on Gracie's part, but she is a strong and smart heroine. The story bogged in some scenes as Gracie and Andy work their way to the camp, with a little repetitiveness as they search houses and move from place to place.

Overall this is a very enjoyable read. With a touch of paranormal, YA, apocalyptic, and suspense all in one, A Light in the Dark should appeal to a vast audience of readers.
